In other words, do not just write random words/letters that go in blanks or just an answer without context. Topic: “Birthing Clinics in Fin-de-Siècle Fiction by German Women Writers”

In the late nineteenth century, most births took place without doctors or medical interventions and only a very small number of women gave birth in birthing clinics.  However, despite this, the literary works by German women writers at the time show a preoccupation with unwed mothers’ birthing experiences at birthing clinics, focusing on such things as the socio-economic and moral factors that influenced their patient care and their access to health care. In these literary works, birthing clinics are depicted as emblems of transgression, poverty, and female suffering.  This talk will focus on the way women writers use representations of birthing clinics in their novels as moments to incite social change and to develop socially conscious characters.​
